Ironically, many people actually cause water damage by trying to be energy efficient. Here, they will attempt to avoid using too much energy by keeping their heating on low even when it starts to get cold. While this might save a little energy in the short-run though, it actually causes cold to set into the walls. At a certain point, the walls in a building can reach what is known as the ‘dew point temperature’ where condensation becomes a problem and the cold becomes self-sustaining. This is a big issue as at this point the property can become almost impossible to heat. Now a large amount of heating will be required to get the property to a ‘warm’ point which ultimately will actually cost you heating. Furthermore, if it leads to water damage, then this, in turn, can result in a lot more expense both in terms of energy and money.
